The Unique Value of Yoga
Jerry Steinhoff, Marketing Director, MetaSense Inc. (16-Sep-2014)
If you are like I was, you probably think of yoga as some mysterious practice that some people take very seriously while others might even joke about it. After meeting with Dr. Gandhi and others, reading her book and surfing the net in preparation for this website, I can tell you that yoga is serious stuff… not only during pregnancy but for anyone who wants to achieve a more healthy, peaceful and rewarding life style.
While rooted in an ancient art, yoga has recently come into its own. Just google “yoga” or “yoga during pregnancy” and you will see what I mean. I was amazed at the numerous programs, classes, videos and books. Obviously, like anything else on the net, you have to wade through the mediocre to find the good stuff. Fortunately, you found Dr. Gandhi’s website and her book… especially for the mother to be.
As a board-certified obstetrician and gynecologist practicing here in New Jersey, with years of experience practicing and teaching yoga and the mother of two, Dr. Gandhi is uniquely qualified to guide hopeful and expecting mothers through the wonders of yoga.
A relaxed, peaceful, happy mother yields a relaxed, peaceful, happy child… It’s that simple. But, it goes beyond that. Yogic exercises, meditation and breathing practices can help to better prepare the expectant mother for that amazing event. Yoga can be a great way to stay in shape during your pregnancy. This ancient practice keeps you limber, tones your muscles, and improves your balance and circulation, with little impact on your joints. It helps your breathing, an important component for delivery, and it enables a bond to develop between mother and child. Whether you are currently practicing yoga or new to the fold, there are things in the book which will be helpful as you progress through pregnancy and after.
While there can be some segments of yoga that can be strenuous, Dr Gandhi guides you through those efforts which are appropriate at the various stages of pregnancy from pre-conception to pregnancy to post –partum recovery. There’s even a section on diet.
My wife likes to collect items that she can pass on to our children and grandchildren as heirlooms. Well, in my opinion, Dr. Gandhi’s book is something you will want to pass on to future generations!
